Lancôme Absolue Longevity MD and Urolithin A: what you need to know
Lancôme Absolue Longevity MD products contain Urolithin A. The five-product range is divided into Anticipate, Intercept and Reset skincare protocols, which target different age profiles.
Why are there three Lancôme Longevity MD ranges?
Lancôme divides the collection according to the stage of visible skin ageing rather than simply offering one universal anti-ageing product. Anticipate is positioned before significant ageing signs appear, Intercept as they emerge, and Reset once they are more established. The age bands are Lancôme’s recommended consumer groups rather than strict biological thresholds.

Lancôme’s three age bands are mainly a way of turning skin ageing into three intervention stages, rather than suggesting that something biologically abrupt happens at ages 35 or 55. A 52-year-old with few visible signs shouldn’t automatically conclude that Reset is inappropriate, just as a 38-year-old shouldn’t assume Anticipate suddenly became unsuitable on their 36th birthday.
The logic for the product range is essentially prevention → early intervention → correction. These are Lancôme’s product-positioning protocols, built around the general progression of visible skin ageing.
What each product is doing
Think of the serum as the lighter, concentrated treatment step and the cream as the moisturising/protective finishing step.
For Intercept, the serum is used on the face and eye area and Lancôme highlights results around elasticity, radiance and crow’s-feet. The cream is then applied afterwards and is positioned more around maintaining firmness, smoothness, comfort and supporting the skin barrier. So the routine is essentially: Cleanse → Intercept Serum → Intercept Cream
Lancôme describes Reset Serum as targeting firmness, volume, radiance and wrinkles, while Reset Cream is the richer finishing treatment with its headline results around skin rebound and its measure of “visible biological skin age.”

Do I need both the serum and cream?
Lancôme recommends using the serum first and cream second as a two-step protocol. However, both products contain Urolithin A and have been tested individually. We have not identified evidence showing that users must use both products together to obtain the reported benefits. The evidence Lancôme presents is mostly for the individual products, not proof that you need both together.
Both the serum and cream contain Urolithin A plus the corresponding Intercept or Reset compound, and Lancôme reports testing each product individually.
There does not appear to be good evidence from Lancôme showing something like:
- Serum alone = X improvement
- Cream alone = Y improvement
- Serum + cream = significantly greater Z improvement
That distinction matters because buying both is expensive.
If someone only wanted to buy one…
For Intercept, we would suggest the Serum as the lead product. It is the more obvious dedicated treatment product, covers face and eye area, and Lancôme presents substantial product-specific results including elasticity, radiance and crow’s-feet.
For Reset, the choice is less clear. Reset Serum has useful firmness and tightening data, but Reset Cream actually carries some of Lancôme’s strongest headline clinical claims, including +55% skin rebound and the reported change in its measure of visible biological skin age.
To hekp decide, the Reset The Serum is best if you want: a lighter treatment / serum step. Whereas Reset The Cream is better if you want: one richer standalone product and are particularly interested in Lancôme’s strongest finished-product clinical claims including:
- Up to 55% improvement in skin rebound
- A reported improvement equivalent to up to four years in its measure of visible biological skin age
- Up to 31% recovery effect
[The skin-rebound measurement came from instrumental testing involving 40 people. The “visible biological age” result comes from a clinical study of 94 people over two months.]
Would it be better for a younger person to use the Reset serum or cream as it offers more benefits?
Lancôme designed Reset for established visible ageing signs often experienced by people aged over 55 years, while Intercept targets emerging ageing signs and Anticipate targets earlier/preventative concerns. Those age bands aren’t biological cut-offs, but they do reflect differences in the formulations and in the populations/skin concerns Lancôme chose to test.
The biggest trap is comparing figures such as “Up to 55% rebound” for Reset Cream with “Up to 52% tightened skin” for Intercept Serum and concluding Reset is stronger. Those are different endpoints, measured in different studies and populations. They are not head-to-head trials, so the percentages cannot tell us which product would work better on younger skin.
Also, Lancôme does not disclose enough information to conclude that Reset contains more Urolithin Athan Intercept or Anticipate. So buying Reset does not necessarily mean you are getting a larger Urolithin A dose.
If you are younger but particularly interested in experimenting with topical Urolithin A, consider Intercept The Serum rather than Reset.
Why? It gives you Urolithin A in a serum designed as the active treatment step, while avoiding paying for a Reset formulation explicitly designed around more established ageing characteristics. Lancôme reports substantial finished-product results for Intercept Serum, including elasticity, radiance and crow’s-feet measurements.
There is also a scientific reason to be cautious: if the Reset study recruited older participants with poorer baseline firmness/rebound, they may simply have had more scope for measurable improvement. That is an inference rather than something Lancôme demonstrates publicly, but it is one reason cross-study percentage comparisons are unreliable.
More reported benefits does not necessarily mean a stronger product. Lancôme’s Anticipate, Intercept and Reset products were designed and tested for different skin concerns and populations, so results from separate studies should not be directly compared.
